Who is Polowen for?

Polowen is a specialist provision for learners with complex Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and/or Autism whose needs cannot be fully met through universal provision alone.

These provisions are designed for learners who require a more specialist environment, enhanced staffing, adapted teaching approaches and targeted support to enable them to learn, communicate and thrive.

Places at Polowen are allocated through the Local Authority's SEND placement process and all learners must have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) where specialist provision has been identified with a primary need of Speech and Language and/or autism.

The Local Authority works closely with families, schools and professionals to determine whether a specialist placement is the most appropriate provision to meet a child's needs.
