Polowen is a specialist provision based at Poltair School for learners with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) who require a highly personalised and specialist learning environment. 

At Polowen, we recognise that every learner has unique strengths, interests and aspirations. Our provision is designed to remove barriers to learning and help learners develop the communication, independence and life skills they need to thrive both in school and beyond.

We provide a safe, nurturing and structured environment where relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Through specialist teaching, high levels of support and a curriculum tailored to individual needs, learners are supported to make meaningful progress academically, socially and emotionally.

Communication underpins all aspects of learning at Polowen. We use a Total Communication approach, incorporating spoken language, symbols, signing, visual supports and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems to ensure every learner can understand, participate and express themselves.

Our curriculum combines academic learning with therapeutic and developmental priorities, including communication, emotional wellbeing, independence and preparation for adulthood. Learning is delivered through practical, engaging and multi-sensory approaches that reflect the needs of our learners and support them to develop confidence, character and curiosity.

Although learners are educated within a specialist environment, Polowen is an important part of the wider Poltair community. We are committed to ensuring every learner feels valued, respected and empowered to achieve their potential.
