  • The University of Oxford visits Year 8!

    Researchers from the University of Oxford visited Poltair School, bringing the world of Oxplore Big Questions into our classrooms. The students worked through the following ideas:

     

    • Would it be better if we all spoke the same language?
    • Could we ever live in space?

     

    In the language workshop, students sampled and reviewed different flavours of tea, decoded the Arabic language, and explored what would happen if certain words were to vanish entirely.

     

    Meanwhile in the science workshop (or should we say, the ‘rocket laboratory’?) students constructed and tested balloon-powered rockets, designed a moon base, and decided on the most useful medical equipment for a potential space hospital.

     

    This visit was part of a series of events that aims to challenge those in Years 7, 8 and 9 with debates and ideas that go beyond what is usually covered in the classroom. Oxford’s Big Questions tackle complex ideas across a wide range of subjects and reflect the kind of critical thinking students undertake at university.

  • Farewell Year 11

    On Wednesday 14th June, Year 11 had their Leavers Assembly, celebrating their 5 year journey at Poltair School.

     

    A selection of photos from the last 5 years gave students a smile and a trip down memory lane, these were accompanied by some very wise but emotional speeches from Mr Everett, Miss Waters and the Year 11 tutors.

    On behalf of everyone here at Poltair, we would like to say a huge WELL DONE to all of our Year 11s

    We are now looking forward to seeing them at the final celebration of their Poltair journey - the Class of 2023 Prom!

    We are pleased to announce that we have been given a Bronze award for our work to make sure students don’t miss out on an education because they are young carers!

    The Young Carers in Schools programme helps primary and secondary schools improve outcomes for young carers and celebrates good practice through the Young Carers in Schools Award.
