Admissions

The normal admission point is Year 6 into Year 7.

To apply for a place at secondary school you must do this through the Local Authority that you currently live in. It is possible to apply online once you have received your child’s Unique Identification Number or UID. Alternatively, you can submit a paper application which can be downloaded from the Local Authority’s website.

To help you make up your mind about which secondary school is best for your child, we hold an Open Evening in September/October for prospective parents to meet our staff and students and to look around the school. We strongly recommend that you attend either the Open Evening or join a tour around the school to meet us and find out more about the school.  For the past few years, Poltair has been oversubscribed.

The transition section of our website is also very informative and can update you on key dates and information about the transition process at Poltair School.

Admission into other years

Occasionally, children enter the school outside the normal admissions point.  If you wish to apply for a place, please apply through Cornwall Council admissions department (link below) and we will review applications case by case. If your child is allocated a place, you will be invited in to have a tour of the school and chat to the Head of Year when a start date will be given.

If your application is unsuccessful, you will be given the opportunity to appeal against the decision and to remain on our waiting list should a place become available.
