A new and exciting boys' dance workshop is taking place at Poltair! It is a new version of capoeira, called 'JingaStreet'
The Capoeira will be taught by Craig Blackburn from 'Jinga communities', and will run on Thursdays 3.15pm ~ 4.15pm in the dance studio for 10 weeks starting 12th January. Craig has previously taken sessions at Poltair School which have been a huge success.
'My name is Craig Blackburn - my capoeira nickname is 'Canguru'. I'm a freelance capoeira instructor and social entreprenuer in my role as business & project manager of Jinga Communities'.
'Capoeira is freedom. It is self expression within a game, a fight within a dance'.'The most valuable lessons in my capoeira have been taught to me by my students'.
Craig explains that...
'JingaStreet is a choreographed Brazilian streetdance fusing capoeira, breakdance and other 'street' moves'. Over the next 10 weeks we will choreograph a 3-min piece to be performed at the end of term. This will include lots of acrobatics and cool moves; some solo and partner choreography. Please note this is a 10-wk course, not a drop-in session. Boys only please.'
Capoeira preserves history through music, folklore and ritual... and offers confidence and self esteem to its participants.
