This week several new books were added to the library stock. Some of which were requested by students. There is a box in the library for your book requests, so if there is something you would like to read that is not stocked, please put a note in the box and Mrs Hancock will do her best to get it.

Some of these new books are; the 2 new Patrick Ness books, 'The Ask and the Answer' winner of the Costa Children's book award and 'The Knife of Never Letting go' also a winner of the Guardian fiction prize. Other new books include, Bear Grylls 'Mission Survival' and also titles by Andy McNab and Darren Shan.

Accelerated Reader students have been busy reading and quizzing. The top of the word count list in Year 7 at the moment is Niamh Stephen with 79,095 words read. The Year 8 word chart topper is Nathan Armitage with 345,048 words, an amazing amount.

Our Kernow Youth Book Award group is up and running. We have had 2 meetings so far this term and the team is working its way through the chosen books for the award. If you are a Year 7 student and an avid reader, please come and see Mrs Hancock to take part in the group. Have a look at the wall display in the library which shows you our team from last year at the Award Ceremony at the Keay Theatre.

Don't forget the stationary shop is open at breaks in the library, so come and stock up on your pens, pencils etc.

Policy Review

Dear Parents and Carers

As you may be aware, the statutory guidance from the Department for Education around Relationships and Sex Education has changed. Here at Poltair School, we have worked hard to think about how to teach this to our students, making sure that our lessons are engaging and designed to suit the needs of all of our students in an age appropriate manner. Students will have a lesson called Personal Development once a fortnight, in which this and other topics will be covered. This was formerly known as Morals and Ethics.

We would like to get feedback from our community in order to finalise our policy on the delivery of this important curriculum area. Our draft policy is available on our website for your consideration, and we welcome any questions, comments or feedback via email to Clare Price ([email protected]). When we are able to open up the site to parents and carers, we will hold a review and consultation meeting at school to consider our policy and delivery further. Please send any communications by 10th July 2020 at the latest.

Contact during exceptional circumstances

It is important that all children, families and professionals are able to contact key staff to share information in respect of safeguarding and concerns.

Following the wider opening of all CELT schools, there is now a member of the safeguarding team on duty in school every day. Please contact the school directly and ask for the DSL if you have any concerns you wish to discuss.

The dedicated CELT e mail address is still in operation and can be used if, for any reason, you are unable to contact the school;

[email protected]

This will be monitored during office hours only, Monday to Friday.

However, you should contact the Police or Social Care if you feel that a child is at risk of immediate serious harm.

The Poltair Art Department have started a Poltair Pinterest page.

Students are emailing work they have completed at home to their teachers, the work is then showcased on the page.

Some fantastic work on there already:
