The Summer holiday was an exciting time for many of our new Year 7's, and current Year 7's, as they attended the third annual Poltair Summer Challenge. These pupils enjoyed a fantastic opportunity to make new friends, meet Poltair student prefects and staff, build confidence, develop a variety of skills by completing a wide range of Outdoor Education challenges, boost their Numeracy and Literacy skills and most importantly, they had lots of fun. In fact, many of the students took part in the Summer Challenge for two weeks over the holidays!
The pupils had a great time completing the challenges and tasks set by the staff at Porthpean: many of the pupils took part in activities for the first time, whilst others overcame fears and unlocked a new level of confidence in their abilities. Some of the tasks included archery, mountain biking, orienteering, canoeing, rock pooling, high ropes and fantastic team building tasks such as "The Beast" and "The Gutter Run". Of course, highlights not only included the 'Pirate Day in Fowey', but also watching Mr Adams and Mr Shepherd get stuck on the high ropes!
It was fantastic to see so many students excel in such a broad range of skills, even before they begin their time at Poltair School, and we are extremely excited to see these young people bring these skills to the classroom.
We plan to offer this amazing opportunity to next year's new Year 7's, and we hope to see even more young people get involved.
