During half term several committed Year 10 and 11 pupils came to school to brush up on vital skills ahead of their final GCSE examinations this month. We had pupils from IT, PE and Technology.

The GCSE catering pupils enjoyed a variety of activities throughout the day these included playing giant Jenga and cooking bacon sandwiches for the technology pupils who had arrived for the revision sessions. But it wasn't all about eating and playing games! The bacon cooking came with revision about nutrition and healthy eating guidelines and each brick removed from the Jenga stack came with an attached question that needed answering, before placing on the top of the stack. The Jenga champion was Tyler Holdstock who answered the most questions correctly whilst ensuring the tower didn't topple at over a metre high! And his reward came in the form of many chocolate doughnuts!

On Friday 23 May 16 of our top Year 7 and 8 pupils visited Brannel School for a friendly Maths competition. It was extremely successful, the pupils enjoyed competing through a variety of teasing problems. We enjoyed playing a big game of Kahoot using Brannel's iPads and using our teamwork skills to problem solve. Although Brannel teams won both the Year7 and 8 competitions, Poltair teams came 2nd and 3rd for Year 8 and did very well in Year 7. We are looking forward to inviting Brannel to Poltair for Round 2. Let's see how we do on our home turf.

Policy Review

Dear Parents and Carers

As you may be aware, the statutory guidance from the Department for Education around Relationships and Sex Education has changed. Here at Poltair School, we have worked hard to think about how to teach this to our students, making sure that our lessons are engaging and designed to suit the needs of all of our students in an age appropriate manner. Students will have a lesson called Personal Development once a fortnight, in which this and other topics will be covered. This was formerly known as Morals and Ethics.

We would like to get feedback from our community in order to finalise our policy on the delivery of this important curriculum area. Our draft policy is available on our website for your consideration, and we welcome any questions, comments or feedback via email to Clare Price ([email protected]). When we are able to open up the site to parents and carers, we will hold a review and consultation meeting at school to consider our policy and delivery further. Please send any communications by 10th July 2020 at the latest.

Contact during exceptional circumstances

It is important that all children, families and professionals are able to contact key staff to share information in respect of safeguarding and concerns.

Following the wider opening of all CELT schools, there is now a member of the safeguarding team on duty in school every day. Please contact the school directly and ask for the DSL if you have any concerns you wish to discuss.

The dedicated CELT e mail address is still in operation and can be used if, for any reason, you are unable to contact the school;

[email protected]

This will be monitored during office hours only, Monday to Friday.

However, you should contact the Police or Social Care if you feel that a child is at risk of immediate serious harm.

A reflection on the ideas, thoughts, feelings, surroundings and effects of the Corona school closures on Poltair pupils.

The Poltair Art Department have started a Poltair Pinterest page.

Students are emailing work they have completed at home to their teachers, the work is then showcased on the page.

Some fantastic work on there already:
