From 9.30am, balloons began to be filled with helium in preparation for Poltair School's annual balloon race! In the 4 house colours- green representing Trenance, blue representing Tewington, red representing Treverbyn and yellow representing Tregrehan, the balloons were filled and placed into a net by a team made up of a mix of staff and Year 11's . Pupils from all four houses, plus staff, had been buying balloons over the past few weeks in the hope of winning first prize of £100 by having their balloon sent back from the furthest landing point.
As 1pm drew closer, the balloons were moved up onto the field, accompanied by Year 11 pupils, eager to celebrate their time at Poltair and say goodbye to the last 5 years. As the crowds began to gather, both staff and pupils stopped in their tracks to watch the release as the 10 second countdown began. Laura Fenner and Sam Cross (this year's Head Girl and Head Boy) were tasked with releasing the balloons. At the strike of 1pm hit, the cord was pulled and balloons released into the sky in an array of colour.
If you find one of the balloons then please return the label to Poltair!
