Sports College Charity Event - Friday 28th May 2010

As a Sports College we are always working with our community and our pupils did us proud yet again on Saturday 15 May. A team of Year 7 pupils completed the half-marathon in aid of Cancer Research UK. We were supporting Christina Phillips, who has bone cancer and went through the pain of being pushed around a marathon by the Newquay Road Runners. Darrian, Josh, Kieran, Kyle, Danielle and Libby completed 13 miles in a relay team at Par Track. The gruelling attempt was kept light-hearted by the appearance of Eric...Read More

Citizens of the future - Monday 19th October 2009

The ballot boxes were out this week as the School Council was chosen in an election scheduled to coincide with Local Democracy Week. As well as casting their votes, Year 9 students spent the day in a series of workshops designed around the democracy theme and Councillors from Cornwall Council and St Austell Town Council joined in the activities. That year was 1949 and last Saturday, to mark their diamond anniversary, those girls got together for another reunion. The summer of 1949 was a glorious one and the girls were once again blessed with fine...Read More

Comic Relief at Poltair - Wednesday 18th March 2009

Pupils and staff at Poltair certainly entered into the spirit of this year's Comic Relief theme of 'do something funny for money'. Many people chose to dress in comic outfits, hats or masks. Some committed themselves to a whole day's silence, or a day of walking backwards, or a day of speaking entirely in French. There were a range of competitions to enter from Dom Bishop's 'guess how many sweets in a jar' to Mrs Hancock's 'name the teacher[14' from a selection of photos of staff as children. The biggest crowd-puller without doubt was a lunchtime badminton match between Adam...Read More

Year 10 Geography Year 10 Option Day - Monday 12th January 2009

"Fun. Fun. Fun." That was one Year 10 Geographer's appraisal on her recent Year 10 Option Day. Options Days have been a new and exciting development for us at Poltair this year when Option subjects have been allotted a whole day to work on specific projects. Whereas Year 11 pupils have enjoyed the luxury of being able to devote a whole day to coursework Year 10 pupils in Humanities were offered unusual and exhilarating experiences. In Geography pupils became animators for the day to develop their understanding of geological processes whilst in History pupils were able...Read More
