School Library

We have a large purpose built Library which is open to all pupils at both breaks throughout the week.

The Library has over 10,000 books, with a selection of videos, magazines and various articles on a range of subjects.

There is a comprehensive reference book section as well as current and establised fiction of all genres.

We also subscribe to various local and national newspapers so that our children can keep up to date with current affairs.

A book club was formed last year and we have had an overwhelming response. Each member of the Poltair Book Club receives a welcome pack, post-its, a drink and a chocolate biscuit.

The club is very popular and special events and activities are advertised each week by the school librarian Mrs Alison Hancock.

Recent activities have included 'Desert Island Books, a missing word competition and invited guest speakers to talk about their favouraite books.

The library is a welcoming , dynamic place to be and is well used by pupils and staff alike.

Below is a quote from the Reading Champions website, we have been promoting reading especially with boys, and this initiative has contributed ideas and rewards we have been able to use.

‘The Reading Champions project was developed in response to the continuing national concern about boys' and men's underachievement and the lack of positive role models for boys' reading. It is a nationwide scheme which helps find, nurture and celebrates positive male role models for reading - not just well-known names who may be champions in their own fields, but other men and boys who take an interest in reading both for themselves and for other people.'

Pupils and parents can accesses this website and see our reading champions and also read more about the scheme and ideas for promoting reading at home as well in school.
