Introduction

The Humanities Faculty (History, Geography and RE) is a close and successful Faculty with eight full-time members of staff. This staff is very well thought of and have gained other responsibilities within the school i.e. one is the National Strategy Manager, three are Learning Managers and others are Heads of PSHE and Careers.

Re-suiting within the school has led to the whole faculty being located on the top floor of the Smith Block. Whiteboard technology is gradually being introduced and five of our rooms are fully equipped. Last year we were chosen to be the lead faculty for the Foundation Subjects (Key Stage 3) Strategy in the school and this has led to extra funding to support our training and development. Accordingly our schemes of work have been reviewed and largely re-written.

The Faculty aims to provide a high standard of education for pupils in Key Stages 3 and 4 whilst promoting pupils’ moral, spiritual and social development. In encouraging pupils to understand and respect the physical world, different cultures, societies and beliefs we endeavour to develop their self-confidence and self- discipline whilst embracing the ethos of the Sports College enabling them to make informed decisions that are supported by reasoned, balanced argument, and to communicate these ideas and opinions effectively.
