Homework Timetable Notes:

Years 9-11: As a guideline we would encourage pupils to spend one hour per evening on average completing homework and developing their own learning.  GCSE subjects often require substantial pieces of coursework which may be set over a number of weeks.  Pupils should be developing increasingly independent skills as learners.

Staff will set a range of homework tasks including written exercises, research, revision, reviewing new learning, preparation for future lessons.  In some subjects teachers will encourage pupils to complete one long piece of work over a series of homeworks rather than a number of short tasks.

Homework offers the opportunity to extend or reinforce classroom based learning and to develop pupils' independence as learners.  Library and ICT facilities are available for private study after school.

A homework club operates in Student Services on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 3:10-4:15pm.  The enhancement bus also operates on these days.

Parents can support their child's learning by:

  • Providing a quiet place to work, preferably with a table and chair
  • Talking about what their child is learning and showing an interest
  • Encouraging their child to establish a ‘homework routine'
  • Checking their child's planner, signing it weekly to say work has been completed, and noting any concerns for teaching staff and the tutor
  • Checking that written work is completed neatly
  • Supporting their child's preparation for assessments e.g. through question and answer

Note to parents:

If your child claims on a regular basis that he/she ‘has no homework' please contact the tutor or subject teacher who will investigate.

The full homework and own learning policy can be found on the school website in the students section.
