When We Put Our Heads Together There's Not Limit To What We

Can Achieve

Pupils are revelling in the success of their recent Technology Day.  As a Leading Edge provider of Technology, Fowey invited  30 pupils from Fowey Community College, Penrice Community College and Poltair Community College and set them the  challenge of becoming owners of an organic café for a day.  The brief was to design a range of products that promoted the name and image of the café and create food products to sell in it.

The children were organised in  teams with pupils from different schools  and enthusiastically worked together to create innovative and unique logos.  Once this creative process was done they logged onto the internet and turned these ideas into reality, importing images and editing them to get their desired results.  Using cutting edge manufacturing technology, the pupils then produced mugs and coasters with their own organic café logo.

Leading Edge Technology DayThe next step was producing food to sell at the café.  Using all organic ingredients, the children designed and produced their unique biscuits, working within the quality and safety regulations of the food industry.  The biscuits ranged from scary faces, delicate works of art, to hand- cut guitars, with a lot of the children choosing  to encourage healthy eating by decorating their biscuits with organic strawberries and kiwis. Whilst the pupils may only have been learning, the results certainly rivalled anything you could find on the shelves of your local supermarket.  But they didn't stop here, as the children then  designed  the packaging for  their biscuits  ensuring that all the necessary legal information was supplied as well as looking aesthetically pleasing.

The teachers were incredibly proud to see the children approach the challenge with such vigour and excitement and everyone  worked extremely hard to learn the new manufacturing techniques.  The outcomes were new manufacturing techniques learned, imaginations inspired and friendships formed between the three partnership schools. Who knows? maybe someday soon these children will be creating products that are actually on the supermarket shelves!
